Google’s Algorithm Change Punishes Over-Optimized Sites

During a recent SXSW panel, Google’s lead man on their search spam team, Matt Cutts, announced that the search giant will be rolling out an update to their search algorithm that will punish sites for being “over-optimized” or “overly SEO’d.” The statement was released on the website Search Engine Land. Although the panel wasn’t specifically about the new algorithm change, Cutts fielded a question from an audience member asking about how sites with smaller budgets could compete against SEO marketing giants, giving the search spam team leader the perfect opportunity to discuss Google’s upcoming changes.
